Internships available for graduate students in Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work

Goal

Two semester internships provide the student with opportunities to develop psychotherapy skills and gain knowledge of all aspects involved in providing mental health social services.

Job Summary

Candidates will observe therapy sessions, learn documentation requirements and understand the requirements for providing DCFS services. The student will have a small caseload of clients to provide services for. The cases may include individual, family or couples work for a variety of issues and ages. Supervision is provided individually by a LCSW or LCPC therapists. Group supervision is mandatory for case consultations and peer support.

Commitment

Candidates will be completing their graduate programs in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work or Art Therapy. Two semesters are required with a 15 – 20 hour per week schedule. Evening work is preferable.

Duties & Responsibilities

Observe counseling sessions of experienced therapists

Understand the assessment process

Develop treatment plans and case development

Utilize a variety of therapeutic techniques for effectiveness

Learn various documentations required by DHS and DCFS

Provide individual, couples, and family therapy for 10-15 clients

Receive individual supervision from licensed therapist in social work (LCSW) or professional counseling (LCPC).

Attend weekly group supervision on Thursdays from 1:00 – 2:00

Complete all documentation according to requirements as per funding source.

Use Therapist Helper program to schedule appointments and submit sessions for billing

Develop skills in area of interest

Requirements for Candidates

Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook Office Products

Excellent verbal and writing skills

Ability to formulate plans and goals for self and clients

Possess organized work habits

Able to support and seek guidance from staff

Remain flexible in a fast paced work environment

Be self-motivated and able to work independently

Maintain all documentation and required paperwork

Public Relations Coordinator Internship

The goal of this internship is to give candidates useful, resume´-building experience in the Public Relations field.

Job Summary:
Candidates will assist the Public Relations Director in raising mission awareness in order to raise clients and charitable donations through daily print and online communications initiatives. Tasks include writing press materials, newsletter copy, a blog, online social networking activities, coordinating special events, overseeing employee outreach initiatives, and additional duties as assigned.

Status:
Part-time, 20 hours per week minimum; unpaid; flexible hours and work location; available year-round by quarter, semester or season.

Duties & Responsibilities: Assists director with planning public relations activities
Organizing and maintaining print and broadcast clippings
Photography
Creating and updating media lists and calendar of releases
Copywriting for print and web marketing
Other duties as assigned

Organizational Structure:
Reports to Public Relations Director

Candidates Must Possess (Required skills and attributes):
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Strong interviewing and writing skills for feature stories
Familiarity with web-based tools for social networking and tracking industry headlines
Familiarity with desktop publishing and design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite
Familiarity with HTML and web editing tools such as Macromedia Contribute
Ability to work in a fast paced environment: detail oriented; able to work independently; organized with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Candidate must be a degree-seeking student at an accredited college or university.

The Ideal Candidate Should Possess (Preferred skills and attributes):
Practical special events experience in a professional or college setting.
Familiarity with the Health and Human Service Industry, including mental health, child development and early intervention areas Journalism, Marketing, and/or English majors preferred.
